The performance will take place on Thursday, December 15 at 6:30 pm as a part of Vocal Journeys, a monthly series with the participation of vocalists following the classical tradition. The Rose Ensemble is known to perform ancient music in it’s virtuosity, however, their programming is often thought of as inaccessible to general audiences. On the December concert they will be performing joyful Mexican music based on Christmas dances and ballads created about two centuries ago. The concert includes songs never before performed in the United States and will be accompanied by viola da gamba, vihuela da mano, and several percussion instruments (including African drums). This event also features the premiere of a new work by Minnesota composer J. David Moore. A Mexican Baroque Christmas, takes place in the Preston Bradley Hall of the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 East Washington Street. Admission is free
