U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service chief Dale Hall has recently decided to donate money into the project of Hegewisch Marsh - a breeding ground for many birds – restoration and creating of the 24,000 -square-foot Ford Calumet Environmental Center. Hegewisch Marsh is located not far from the Michigan lake. Connected by the Calumet River, it helps clean the lake by filtering out pollution - in a lot of ways, the marsh is one of the kidneys of Lake Michigan. Plans for the site include woods, savanna, meadows and sedge, hiking trails and scenic overlooks. The pre-arranged Calumet Environmental Center will be serving visitors and students from 22 schools within a 10-mile radius.
