This weekend there started celebrations of the Chinese New Year, that’s why thousands of people gathered in Chicago’s Chinatown to see the show a colorful, musical parade. It's the first day of the year of the dog, and the first time some people have ever visited Chicago’s Chinatown. The celebrations included show of the 100-foot-long mystical dragon who comes out to spread abundance and prosperity to people. It was also the first time fireworks were used. And, of course, there were six Chinese lions dancing to drums to scare away evil spirits and attract good fortune. The Chinese New Year starts on the new moon and lasts until the full moon, about 15 days.
